Golden Days on the South Downs in the Sun
Last summer, I spent a glorious day wandering through the South Downs, following my favorite route from Littlington to Cuckmere Haven. Along the way, I passed the enigmatic Long Man of Wilmington, etched into the hillside like a guardian of ancient wisdom. This landscape never fails to inspire me—miles of open skies stretch over rolling hills, punctuated by charming villages with thatched cottages, winding lanes, and timeworn farms.
The hedgerows, brimming with cow parsley and wildflowers, swayed gently in the breeze, their delicate forms dancing in the golden light. The air carried the scent of earth and blossoms, and with every step, I felt immersed in the quiet magic of the land.
The hills unfolded in a patchwork of fields and meadows, each with its own rhythm of color and texture—wheat rippling like a golden sea, emerald pastures speckled with grazing sheep, and wild grasses shifting in the wind. Capturing this tapestry in paint became an irresistible challenge, translating the movement of light and shadow into brushstrokes that hold the essence of this sacred landscape.
Back in my studio, I wanted to recreate not just the scenery but the feeling of walking through it—the expansiveness, the timelessness, the sense of deep connection with the land. Layer by layer, I built up the textures, from the soft haze of distant hills to the intricate dance of wildflowers in the foreground. Color played a vital role in shaping the mood. I blended warm, sunlit golds with the cool blues of the sky and the soft greens of rolling meadows, letting them merge in ways that reflect the shifting light of the South Downs. The final touches—subtle highlights, the impression of a breeze whispering through the grass—brought the piece to life, turning a canvas into a portal to that serene summer’s day.
This painting is more than a landscape; it’s a memory, a love letter to a place that has left its imprint on my heart. I hope that when others see it, they feel the same sense of peace and wonder that I did as I walked those ancient paths...

Return & Refund Policy
I take great pride in my work and personally guarantee the craftsmanship of every item. I inspect and pack my items very carefully before shipping and am confident that you will love your new artwork. However, if you should decide that your purchase does not fit your needs, I will gladly accept returns within five business days if you notify Finches Creative Design by email and then send the artwork back in its original condition and packaging with a similarly insured shipping service. Once the item is received, I will refund your payment minus all shipping and import costs.
If your order arrives and is damaged please ensure you do the following:
- Take photos of the damage to the outside of the packaging before opening it
- Take photos of any damage to the artwork inside the package
- Where a courier/Royal Mail is responsible for damage in transit you should lodge a complaint with them and notify Finches Creative Design.
Finches Creative Design do not accept damage in transit caused by couriers or Royal Mail (but will assist you with a claim, where possible). Cancellations cannot be made once the shipment has been booked and/or the parcel is in transit.
No refund will be issued if customs destroy or return the parcel to Finches Creative Design due to delayed payment of customs taxes or import duties.
Shipping
Finches Creative Design ship within 5 working days of payment being received and cleared. Finches use a fully trackable courier service typically Parcelforce or Fedex. Delivery times may vary from location to location and delivery is usually made between 3-5 working days. This is dependent on customs clearing the parcels promptly and delivery issues with more remote locations.
Important! Once shipping has been booked, changes to the delivery address and recipient cannot be changed. An adult must be available at the delivery address provided to sign for the parcel.
UK SHIPPING
Economy delivery within the UK is free. If you require a faster premium service, additional charges are calculated and added at checkout.
All original artwork is shipped via a specialist premium service and this is also free unless an alternative service is required at extra cost. Additional shipping costs will be invoiced separately by Finches Creative Design and payment must be made via direct bank transfer before shipment is booked. Personal identification including the address will be required before shipment is booked and the recipient’s address must be the same as the purchaser’s address.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
Economy shipping for orders (excluding originals) above £100 is free. If an alternative shipping service is required at extra cost the additional shipping costs will be invoiced separately by Finches Creative Design and payment must be made via direct bank transfer before the shipment is booked.
Original paintings are shipped via a premium service such as Fedex or DHL Express and this charge will be invoiced separately by Finches Creative Design and payment made via direct bank transfer. Personal identification including the address will be required before shipment is booked and the recipient’s address must be the same as the purchaser’s address.
Important! It is likely there will be additional taxes or import duties for shipping outside of the UK. It is the responsibility of the recipient to pay these directly to customs. Failure to pay customs promptly will delay the release of the parcel and could result in additional storage costs for which customs would hold you liable. The parcel may be then be returned to Finches Creative Design or be destroyed and in these instances your payment will not be refunded.
