Back to the River Medway in Tonbridge

Some of my most treasured times growing up would be with my grandparents taking us out for the day. And my most favourite treat was when my grandfather allowed us the oars to row a boat down the River Medway in Tonbridge.

As children, my sisters and I would run up and down the pathway to the top of the lookout mound of Tonbridge Castle where there is a wishing well. My father would tell me that the circular dip was a sleeping dragon and we would tip toe around it so not to wake it.

I chose this perspective because it encompasses so many things about Tonbridge - the 'one ton bridge', the river, the castle and the town clock. The plant in the foreground is the Dog Rose which commonly grows along rivers and has a meaning of purity, love and marriage.

No matter where I have travelled, I've always found myself homesick to return to the River Medway - if only for a day..
